Gaining experience, building a resume, desire to do good or service hours, at least or other of these motivates a wonderful volunteer like Joyce.
“I would be incredibly excited to volunteer”
Joyce stepped forward and offered to volunteer earlier this year. Since then she has created the bulk of the infographics in our library. She has an amazing skill to distill complex data into simple easy to understand graphics. Her contribution to our work is much appreciated.
Q: Where do you live?
A: California, USA
Q: How did you come to love Africa’s wildlife?
A: I volunteered as a camp counselor and exhibit guide at the local zoo throughout high school where I learned a lot about African wildlife
Q: How did you find out about Nikela?
A: Through Volunteer Match! I was looking to volunteer for an animal conservation organization.
Q: What inspired you to volunteer?
A: Animal conservation is something I’ve always been passionate about and I knew that I wanted to continue even after high school. When I found out about Nikela, I was really excited that I could get an opportunity to continue helping and also get a chance to do graphic design.
Q: What is your Nikela Volunteer assignment?
A: I turn articles on wildlife into infographics!
Q: Why is saving and protecting our planet’s wildlife and their habitat important to you?
I think that the diversity of organisms on this planet is something that makes life so beautiful which is why it’s so important to me that we protect wildlife and its habitat.
Q: Why do you think it should be important to others?
A: Because it helps maintain balance in the world as well as making the world a more wonderful place.
Q: Has your volunteer opportunity benefit you in other ways besides feeling good about doing good?
It has really helped hone my design skills! I got my current part time job because my employer saw the giraffe infographic I created and really liked it.
Q: Is there anything else about you that you think our readers/donors would find inspiring/interesting/fun/surprising to learn about you or your experience while volunteering for Nikela?
A: I study cognitive science at Berkeley right now and I’m loving it!
Thanks so much for being part of our team Joyce.
