Moses persuades wildlife poachers to turn in their spears for shovels!
Wildlife poaching is a huge issue across Africa. Large organizations are involved. Money comes pouring in. However, on the ground it’s often individuals who actually make a difference. Who actually really stop the wildlife poachers.
How exactly Moses does it is a mystery.
We met up with Moses early in 2017. He introduced us to his first group of reformed wildlife poachers. They told us stories of spearing and snaring wildlife for the bush meat trade. They spoke of killing elephants, hippo, and all sorts of antelope. It was the way they fed their families. It was their way of life… or thankfully had been.
Moses helped them become farmers. Bees to provide honey. Fish ponds to raise Tilapia, and access to rich soil to grow a variety of vegetables.
Spears for shovels
Since our visit Moses continues to expand his reach. Recently 42 poachers laid down their weapons in exchange for beehives sponsored by Nikela. These wildlife poachers were willing to change their ways, willing to become farmers with Moses’ help. Moses was naturally overwhelmed by the numbers of wildlife poachers at this gathering willing to throw down their spears.
Your help is needed
Twenty beehives were built in preparation for this meeting. As you can see many more are needed. And learning bee keeping is just the beginning. Moses also wants to teach them sustainable farming.
Moses is just an ordinary man who doesn’t have the means to fund all this. He simply cannot do all this work to stop the poaching without continual financial support.
Your monthly gift helps build beehives and buy much needed farming supplies. You help keeps families fed and wildlife alive.
