Saving African wildlife has touched the hearts (and pocket books) of people from all around the world. Nonprofits and foundations of all kinds do research, anti-poaching and rescue rehabilitation work. Some of these organizations are huge with mega funding, others are small grass roots efforts with tiny budgets.
Large or small, each of these organizations has saving African wildlife as their mission. Exactly what each does and how they do it varies greatly. For the donor, and wanna-be donor, this can be quite confusing. Some large organizations have equally large administrative costs. Some organizations are restricted by the wishes of their funders (funding comes with strings attached). Some smaller organizations are compelled to develop a ‘retail side’ to fund their conservation work (sell T-shirts, give tours, provide accommodations).
We can’t speak in detail for other organizations saving African wildlife, however, we can tell you about what Nikela can and cannot do when it comes to this important work of wildlife conservation.
What can Nikela and cannot do?
Nikela can help when large organizations won’t. Nikela can step in where no one else will.
Nikela helps the little guys and gals. Nikela is not one of the big players with lots of money. Nikela is about helping the small, grass roots organizations (and even individuals) right there on the ground saving African wildlife.
Nikela can’t fund large projects, but can assist with much needed ongoing smaller items difficult to get funded. Basically, Nikela can fill in the gaps.
“You’re a life saver!” Peter said recently on receiving the $100 we sent. It arrived just in time to buy the needed extra two-way radios to better assist the Wildlife Rangers on patrol protecting rhino during the full moon.
- Sponsor pangolin rescue missions in Uganda.
- Buy beehives to stop elephants destroying farm crops in Tanzania.
- Fund two-way radios and other smaller equipment to stop rhino poaching.
- Sponsor a ranger scout to protect elephants and their home in Malawi.
- For others like this visit our Projects.
More about Nikela
Nikela is a small US based charity. Founded by Margrit and Russ Harris simply because they wanted to d a bit of good for those Wildlife Heroes they met along the way. All donations go to the projects. Margrit and Russ pay for all their travel expenses to visit as many of the projects Nikela supports as possible. All administrative costs are funded separately.
Getting involved and making a difference is super easy…
Wildlife is Africa! Sadly elephant, lions, rhino, pangolin and many other endangered wildlife species are being killed every day for their body parts. But there is good news. Nikela connects you to real Wildlife Heroes. You give monthly, we send 100% to help right there on the ground.
