An American opportunist into killing for profit is accused of prematurely offering trophy hunters a black manned male lion.
Almost eighteen months ago a much loved male lion was lured out of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe and brutally shot by a trophy hunter. Thousands of tourists to the park came to see this lion. I’m told he was quite the sight as he strutted his stuff to his enthralled audience. Because of the ego and selfishness of one man from the USA this proud lion is seen no more, he is dead.
Killing for profit
When I saw the post below by Peter Rettig on Facebook that another gorgeous male lion had a price tag on his head, I simply had to share. If enough of us get outraged. If enough of us support Izak Smit with Helping the Desert Lions in Namibia, maybe, just maybe this hunt can be stopped and this lion’s life and that of his pride can be spared.
Well it worked!
Thanks to the fast action of Izak Smit and his team before I could even get this post scheduled it was over…
Here is the post by Peter Rettig that got the ball rolling
Another Cecil the Lion Case: Desert Male Lion Trophy Hunt in Namibia is up for Sale!
From Peter Rettig
Nambia sells out
They are doing it again, despite Scientific Research proving the devastating impact of shooting adult male lions out of the very small Desert Lion Population, despite the many killed lions due to human-wildlife conflict in Kuene. The rot in Nambia continues!
Losing money, losing lions, losing people
Namibia is losing money with every trophy hunt of iconic species, as the photo tourists more and more get aware of what is going on. And the shooting of masses of non-iconic species, like Elephants, Rhinos, Cheetahs, Leopards and Lions, for bushmeat and trophies inside the so highly rated Conservancies has resulted in more and more people getting Namibia off the list of Top Safari Destinations.
Namibia is losing way too many lions due to human-wildlife conflict. To shoot lions for fun while the local people only get Micky Mouse Money out of this business is absolutely unacceptable. The Torra Community will get 3.500 US $ from this hunt, a per capita income of 3 US $! So the Torra Community put a significant income and jobs (approximately 130.000 US $ p.a.) from Damaraland Camp in jeopardy for a Lion Trophy Hunt!
Gorillas vs. Lion
Everybody should keep in mind, there are more Mountain Gorillas than Desert Adapted Lions in Africa. And if anybody would put a Mountain Gorilla up for a Trophy Hunt he/she would be shot on the spot.
Cecil the Lion all over again
Based on information from people on the ground there is no Adult Male Lion roaming the Torra Conservancy, but there is one in the adjacent Palmwag Conservancy. So it will be another Cecil Case, the Male Lion will be baited out of the Palmwag Concession.
[So as not to give the Hunting Outfit free advertising further details and their name are omitted.]
When Izak heard about this hunt he began inquiring. He came to find out that nothing official had been decided regarding the hunting of this lion. An American into killing for profit got ahead of himself supposedly and put a price tag on this male lion’s head prematurely.
Thank goodness for people like Peter and Izak who care and act.
Trophy Hunters Beware!
Three watchouts for trophy hunters.
1) Not all hunts offered up by trophy hunting outfitters are legal.
2) Hunting outfitters are not NGOs. They are not nonprofit organizations. They are killing for profit! Therefor, they are not wildlife conservationists!
3) Remember, since Cecil the Lion there are many more people like Peter and Izak who will do everything they can to keep lions alive. Proceed at your own risk.
