There we were enjoying the elephants and other wildlife in Majete Game Reserve when we realized that we were trapped at the waterhole.
Let me set the scene:
A hide is a lookout for viewing wildlife. The Nakamba Hide in the Majete Game Reserve is elevated about one story above the waterhole. The waterhole and surrounding area are nicely visible. On the three other sides the hide is semi hidden by brush and scrub trees. There is about a fifty foot walk from the ‘parking area’ to the stairs leading up to the hide.
Waterholes are perfect places for watching wildlife interactions. Do the little ones or the adults come in first? Who chases away whom? At times you arrive to find the waterhole empty. However, just be quiet an wait… And they will come.
We’re totally engrossed watching the elephant taking turns drinking from the pipe feeding the waterhole. Distracted only by the kudu making a failed attempt at drinking and the herd of sable marching in with great determination… but then. Why don’t you simply watch this video about what happens when we are ready to leave.
