Life around the world has been disrupted by COVID-19. People in Africa are probably hit one of the hardest. In the western world some may be spending far too much time isolated from loved ones. but in Africa there are far too many who don’t know where the next meal is coming from.
Africa is a continent where many families live day to day. Relying on daily wages or daily harvests. When this pandemic first broke out Moses in Uganda told us “hunger, not the Coronavirus will kill us.”
People in Africa
Why does Moses do it?
With the loss of income and the challenges the pandemic brings, Moses is a God send. He is the sort of fella who just jumps in, starts doing. and asks for help to get it done one step at a time. This past month he dredged two old fish ponds and built a simple fish house (to store fish food and be a one room home for a guard.) With the help of Nikela and some of his Facebook friends he made it happen. He did all this to keep his 40 reformed poachers engaged and self-sufficient (Moses has also taught them vegetable farming and beekeeping.)
This year more than ever people in Africa, like Moses and his families, are relying on what they can grow to survive. Moses tells me lock downs continue to stall other forms of work.
Have you ever considered what it would be like living entirely off what you grow? Okay, some of you probably do… congrats! But, for the rest of us… Over the 45 years Russ and I have been married we’ve made many attempts to grow a few vegetables. But to live off what we grow? We’d not survive!
All the more reason to support someone like Moses, who not only keeps his family, but others eating.
