Help Shannon save the beautiful Bearded Vulture from going extinct
Some folk are devoted to their dog others to their cat. Shannon not only loves the birds in her care, she has devoted her life to save them.
Shannon is devoted to saving raptors, more commonly referred to as birds of prey. Especially the Bearded Vulture an endangered species.
The Bearded Vulture, probably the most good looking vulture, is in serious trouble in Southern Africa. After rescuing the Bearded Lady from a witch doctor and later two chicks Shannon just had to do something.
Shannon took on a huge project to breed, raise and release Bearded Vultures. They are literally being bred for the wild!
These gorgeous birds who eat mainly bones, yes bones, no lambs as their alternate name Lammergeier suggests. This myth along with habitat loss is rapidly causing this entire species demise. Their last stronghold in Africa is in the Drakensberg mountains.
A few years back Shannon received a call from the local wildlife authorities. A Bearded Vulture was being kept by a local medicine man in a small chicken coop. They asked her to help.
Sadly, this beautiful bird was unable to fly, so non-releaseable. However, the good news is… she could become the beginning of a breeding program to save her species.
This was the final push Shannon needed. It was time to get seriously involved.
Starting a Bearded Vulture breeding program is no easy task.
As you can imagine, besides know-how, permits, space, time and commitment… it takes funding.
Although we can’t begin to support the entire project, with your help, we can make a difference for Shannon.
So save your pennies, give up a latte once a week, or take a sandwich for lunch periodically, and give what you save. This may just stop an entire species from going extinct!
Consider monthly financial donations to help Shannon save this endangered African animal.
