After installing over 700 bomas with life saving lights this project is now COMPLETED
Philipo is a warrior for lions.
It wasn’t always so. With human wildlife conflict on the rise in his village in Tanzania Philipo used to hate lions. You see, as human populations encroach on wild places lions get to close too livestock. And as you can imagine, Maaisai farmers like Philipo don’t like that. Help Philipo save African lions.
Angry farmers resort to killing lions if they prey on their livestock. However, Philipo met Patti from Pennsylvania a few years back. And Patti loves lions. Well, the two of them made an agreement. If Patti found a solution to keep lions away from the cattle bomas Philipo would champion the cause for lions. Literally, he would help save African lions.
Lights save lions
To make a long story short. Lights keep lions away from cattle bomas at night. Patti came up with a unique design and set up. Now Philipo is on board and saving lions. And the Tanzania Lion Illumination Project was born.
However, although a rather simple concept, creating these lights and the accompanying equipment to be rugged enough is not. Philipo and Patti experimented for some time. Now it seems they’ve found a reproducible system.
Good News and Bad News
Requests for lights are coming in from everywhere.
This is of course both good and bad.
Good that the lights are working, farmers are using them and lions are being saved.
Bad it costs money to produce the lights, accompanying solar panels and travel to the various cattle posts to install them.
This year with a mere $500 Nikela sponsored lights for one boma.
With you support we can do it again.
