50 years ago 450,000 lions roamed the plains and bush of Africa. Today a mere 20,000 remain. Dereck Joubert (explorer and photographer for National Geographics) predicts, “At this rate, if we don’t do something now, the lion will be extinct in 10 to 15 years.” The situation looks pretty grim for all the big cats.
