Imagine two 300 pound leopards in the wilds of Africa needing radio tracking collars.
How do you start… “Here kitty kitty”?
Africa’s Crocodile Dundee, Dairen Simpson, a world class wildlife capture specialist will use calls to track and catch these two wild cats for the ‘Leopard Research’ Project Nikela supports in South Africa.
However, before that, in between jobs, in Belize South America and a six month string of work in Africa, Dairen is coming to the Texas Hill Country. In late April he will personally keep us all riveted to our seats with his stories. Even better that seeing him on Animal Planet last fall.
Watch our blog for times and places.
When I first miss-googled Dairen’s name, something came up about local rodent and pest control. Ironic comparison, don’t you think?
Dairen is a combination of old Indian tracker and savvy conservationist. Although not a wildlife whisperer his techniques are famous for doing little harm and sending the animal back to nature with less trauma. Not an easy task, but mandatory for scientific research.
Also, THANKS! The Nikela community is shipping two Moultrie-I- 45S IR Trail Cameras for the ‘Cameras Save Leopards’ project. The multiple camera traps capture the leopards’ movements throughout a research region.
It is thrilling for us to join hands across the globe with you, Dairen, Will, Anton, Emma, Carol and others to save the magnificent African Leopard.
