Life with this Wildlife nut is amazing. Fierce Lions, orphaned Rhinos and Monkeys, scary Snakes, injured Raptors, majestic Elephants, and many other injured or Endanger Species; Margrit does her part to help them by Helping People Saving Wildlife.
After 40 years together you could say we know each other pretty well. But Margrit surprises me daily with her balance, enthusiasm, determination, drive, and caring dealings with people and Wildlife.
She wants what’s right in the world and is willing to do her part passionately yet civilly. What a joy to share the adventure with this marvelous woman.
Wildlife joined us early in our marriage. After settling into our first apartment Margrit thought of getting a puppy. ‘We’ then determined it was impractical until I got through Engineering School.
You guessed it. A surprise was waiting at home the next day. How could I refuse the poor puppy looks of both dog and Margrit? 😉 Our other pets and lots of strays arrived with the same scenario and the same irresistible looks.
After raising great kids, dedicating herself as an effective Social Worker and then Business Consultant, we spent 5 years in the Philippines volunteering for our church. This is where her love of animals was shocked into the terrible reality of their plight and annihilation.
Once an island paradise it was not only missing most of its beautiful tropical flowers and trees but was almost barren of Wildlife and birds. The remaining animals just considered vermin or dinner, even the dogs and her beloved cats.
Then while visiting her folks in Africa, our lifes changed for good. She reconnected with her beloved Africa and became inspired to somehow make a difference to Help People Saving Wildlife.
In true Margrit fashion, the truth about the Beautiful and Vulnerable Africa needed to be understood and shared. How? Was the initial question. Just start! Was the answer.
Nikela was born. Involvement expanded from a 10 day South African trip into traveling Africa 6 months a year in our old 2001 Land Rover.
Our Nikela Wildlife Tour this year will be in 9 countries visiting people making a difference for Wildlife. Their stories are told, the word is spread, some funds are raise, and life living in a roof top tent is shared on Nikela’s social media, blog, and web site.
Basically Wildlife students, volunteers, conservationists, enthusiasts, and any other interested parties just ride along with us; hopefully becoming enlightened and helping our contacts where they can.
So, Happy Birthday Margrit and Thank You for your gift to all of us and of course to the Wildlife.
