Like you our movements are restricted due to Covid-19. Taking an early morning game drive, although virtual, helps lift our spirits.
It was a beautiful African morning. The air crisp, the birds announcing the arrival of a new day and Russ and I have the Landy packed up and we’re through the gate. Skukuza is a large camp, with many camping sites. However, we found it rather packed. Which is good, after all its how the reserve brings in revenue to operate.
The sun rises and our first sighting is a pack of Spotted Hyena emerging from beneath the bridge.
This starts off a good early morning game drive. Unlike a movie nothing is scripted. Its all about time and space. Its about being there or not when the Lion pride strolls lazily across the road. Its about noticing the young Giant Owl perched in the tree right next to us.
We often ask ourselves, “How many animals do we drive by? How many do we just not see?” And of course, “How many did we just miss by a fraction of a second?”
Going on an early morning game drive you simply can’t have expectations! Its very much about enjoying what presents itself along your path. Then of course comes the question, as it did for us on this beautiful morning, “Which route should we drive?” There are always the “preferred routes”. The ones where the Leopard was spotted yesterday. But as we know, that was yesterday.
Today, we are fortunate to experience the following. Hope you enjoy the PHOTOS and the VIDEO too.
