Preserving Endangered African Wildlife
Did you know Africa has one of the most diverse animal populations on the planet?
Not to mention the most iconic. Elephants, hippos, lions, zebras, rhinos, giraffes – it’s like a “who’s who” of animal celebrities!
Sadly, many of the African continent’s most beautiful creatures are threatened with extinction.
Margrit and Russ wanted to do something about this. They wanted to help people saving wildlife in South Africa where Margrit was raised. Only, they had a couple of problems… limited money and no idea where to start. You may relate, wanting to do something, but feeling stymied. They finally realized if their friends, and you and your friends, joined together something good might happen.
Now, several years later Nikela donations from folks like you contributed to building an enclosure for the rescued Bearded Lady (Lammergeyer) at Shannon’s Bird of Prey Sanctuary, purchasing an additional thermal imaging camera for an Air Ranger to detect and apprehend rhino poachers, helped buy a much needed vehicle for a primate rescue rehab center, provided underprivileged students with opportunities to experience and learn about wildlife at both Shannon’s center and a bush school, added to Silke’s fund for a larger first aid and treatment clinic, donated to two anti-poaching teams for much needed supplies, and provided two camera traps for a free roaming leopard research project.
Nikela, pronounced ‘niˈɠɛ:la’ means “give to” in Zulu.
The Nikela slogan, “Helping People ~ Saving Wildlife” captures exactly what we do.
A world where wildlife is not threatened because preserving it is the right thing to do.
Protect Wildlife and Change Hearts.
Protect Wildlife via supporting select anti-poaching rangers, rehabbers, and conservationists.
Change Hearts via volunteer experiences, eye opening information and touching stories.
Here at Nikela we search for small private wildlife conservation operations (in Africa) run by seasoned experts. People like you choose and give to the one that speaks to you. 100% of your donation goes to the project and you can even join our PBnJ club to make a bigger difference.
Purely by accident we discovered during 2014 that Matching Challenges are rather productive. Like raising a $1,000 plus over a weekend to help rescue lion cubs and $1,385 in a few days to assist Silke with a double monkey troop release.
2015 will see more Matching Campaigns to raise smaller amounts of funds for very specific immediate needs.
